The Journey?

So, you are ready to make a change. You want to live healthier. You want to set an example for your family. Where do you start? Well, it just depends on where you are at this moment in your life. Are you focusing on your diet, exercise, ridding your homes of toxins? I can not tell you to focus on one particular area. All I can do is tell you what I have done and am doing.

What I felt most compelled to start was getting rid of all GMOs (genetically modified organisms) on my grocery list. First it was just foods on the dirty dozen such as berries and fruit with skins that we eat. Now I have slowly started buying all my fruits and veggies non-GMO. I stay away from corn products and soy because these are almost always GMO (in America).

I am now working on ridding my home of chemicals. I just recently started getting into the nitty gritty of essential oils and I working on becoming a certified aromatherapist. I love what they have done for my family and feel so strongly about them that I decided to start my own doTERRA business so I can share them with others. I found out that I could pretty much replace any cleaning product in my home with some castile soap and essential oil mixture. This has been the funnest thing. Me and the kids get together and look up different recipes and get to try them out together. We have started with laundry detergent (not only non-toxic but has been good with the cloth diapers). We made wool dryer balls for the dryer instead of using dryer sheets. We went on to hand soap, dishwashing soap, wood polisher, floor cleaner and all purpose cleaning spray.

As for the beauty department essential oils have been the key here too. We have been trying out some shampoo and conditioner recipes but have not found one that makes everyone happy quite yet. We will continue working on body scrubs, body washes, lotions and shampoos. I desperately need to find a deodorant recipe! After investigating what types of chemicals are in deodorants I completely stopped using them! No way will I ever put any of that under my arms again!!! After doing some research my daughter made herself a face wash that works great for her and has cleared up her face! Seems like my kids are getting the hang of this natural living thing too!

There is just so much to do and with a big family it seems like it’s an extra slow journey (especially in the diet area). With the new homeschooling year starting this week for the kids and me starting a part-time job next week this is going to be tough but family depends on me to give them a healthy home. It is possible to take control of your life, home and wellness. I hope my journey will compel you to start your own!

    1. I was going to try this out with the cornstarch substitute. I haven’t been using deodorant for a while either and I’m sure people think I’m the dirty hippie especially since I have dreads! lol I will let you know how it goes. I think it should be better than nothing at least. If this recipe doesn’t work I have a few other ones I would like to try out.

      1. Ok so the deoderant smelled really good and actually seemed to work great so far but the consistency was off. I think I might need to melt some shea butter and add it? hmmm I’m going to pour it out of my deoderant container later and try that. I would use it if it didn’t go into a container but I want to try to get it in there, because that would be fun! I will let you know what happens today with that tweak.
